For the third time South Woodford Community Centre Mosque at 10-14 Mulberry Way, East London is attempting to demolish and rebuild its current building, replacing it with an even larger one.
Lawyer Gavin Boby of The Law and Freedom Foundation has put out a plea on YouTube asking for concerned residents of Redbridge, London to oppose the mosque’s latest planning application.
Two proposals to rebuild the mosque have already been rejected by the planning inspectorate, appealed both times and rejected again. Boby accuses the mosque’s planners of using “pester power” — submitting proposals until the authority gives in — to eventually get their desired result.
Opponents of the mosque’s rebuild say the new mosque would be over-dominant and intrusive, out of character for the location and would cause issues for parking during prayer time in an already congested area.
The rebuilt mosque would be three stories above ground and include a basement.
