Migrants protested and held staff hostage at a migrant shelter near Venice, Italy after a 25-year old Ivory coast woman died of “natural causes” Monday.
“Fellow migrants reacted angrily, cutting off the electricity supply to the centre, starting fires and blocking the exit, leaving 25 staff members barricaded inside, local media said.”
The centre houses 1500 migrants but was intended to accommodate only 15.
RT reports refugees at the centre claim the ambulance took 8 hours to arrive after being called while local police and social care services have claimed the ambulance took only 20 minutes.
The centre’s administration has been investigated for fraud and mistreatment prior to the incident, it has been alleged.
